Suffolk County Police today arrested a Babylon man for boating while intoxicated after six people were injured in a boat crash in the Great South Bay early this morning.

Brian Swezey was operating a 1999 Polar 21-foot Center Console boat in the Great South Bay, off Captree Island in Islip, when his boat collided with a 1989 Steiger Craft, carrying six people, at approximately 3:20 a.m.

Mario Posillico, 49, the operator of the Steiger Craft, Georgine Posillico, 47, both of Saltaire, Fire Island, and their passengers, a 19-year-old female, a 15-year-old male and an 11-year-old male were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with non-life threatening injuries. Michelle Posillico, 19, of Saltaire, Fire Island, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. Swezey, 48, of 150 Araca Road , Babylon, and his passenger, were not injured in the crash.

Third Squad detectives charged Swezey with Boating While Intoxicated. He was also issued a summons for failure to submit a breath test. Swezey will be held overnight at the Third Precinct and he is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on July 16.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
